Leadership Jefferson County

This popular program is designed to identify emerging leaders within the Jefferson County area and help them develop their leadership potential. Leadership Jefferson County (LJC) provides its class members with a broader view of civic leadership through direct contact with the people and institutions that shape Jefferson County. Candidates for the program must be concerned about issues affecting the greater Denver area and be committed to personal involvement in shaping the future.

The program begins with a two-day orientation & retreat in September. The agenda includes an introduction to leadership and a team building workshop, and concludes with a graduation dinner in June. Monthly one-day forums expose participants to government, economics, health care, education, arts, justice system, business, regional issues, and human services.

LEADERSHIP JEFFERSON COUNTY MISSION

  • The purpose of Leadership Jefferson County is reflected in its goals:
  • Identify and develop community leaders.
  • Acquaint these leaders with community needs and issues and focus on alternative solutions.
  • Challenge leaders, as a group, to greater community involvment.
  • Educate leaders about all aspects of the community.

A community's strength is measured by the voluntary contributions of time and energy made by its leaders. The Leadership Jefferson County program was developed to find the leadership needed to meet the demands of tomorrow.

The program identifies 25-30 emerging leaders living or working in the Jefferson County area through an application process and puts them in direct contact with the people and institutions that shape the community. The program begins in September and continues through June. Monthly one-day forums expose participants to all aspects that determine the health of a community, including but not limited to local and state government, business, arts and culture and health care. Through contact with a wide range of professionals, participants have the opportunity to expand their knowledge, meet new contacts and influence their community.
Leadership Jefferson County does not advocate programs or particular solutions. Instead, it seeks to present a wide view of the community resulting in a positive effect on participants, their organizations and our community.

"Leadership Jefferson County provides the opportunities for individuals to learn and participate in the various public and private organizations that affect their quality of life." -Steve Burkholder, Founder Mayor, City of Lakewood
